Prevent Frozen Pipes This Winter

Burst pipes occur when water freezes and causes a buildup blocking the pipes. Exposed piping outside, in crawlspaces, and attics are most vulnerable to freezing.

To prevent frozen pipes:

  • Repair exposed piping with insulated sleeves or wrap them to slow heat transfer.
  • Seal any cracks and holes in outside walls near water pipes with caulk.
  • Keep all cabinet doors open to allow warm air to circulate.
  • Maintain a slow trickle of water flowing through faucets that are connected to pipes that run through unheated space.
Call us to winterize your exposed pipes.

Benefits of an Oil to Gas Conversion

  • The energy source is piped directly to the client's facility through the safe, efficient pipeline system. there's no need to store oil on site in tanks, or schedule oil deliveries.
  • There is an abundant supply of domestic natural gas. over half of the oil used in this country is imported. The price and supply f oil is susceptible to international events.
  • Natural gas is reliable. The pipeline system can't be easily damaged by weather or affected by weather conditions. In contrast, oil must be trucked to the client's location, and truck deliveries are susceptible to weather conditions.
  • Natural gas is the cleanest burning fossil fuel - very few by products are emitted into the atmosphere as pollutants. Because natural gas burns cleanly, it doesn't leave behind any unpleasant soot, ash or odors.

Appliances Submerged During Hurricane Irene Should Be Replaced

Today’s water heaters, boilers, furnaces and air conditioning systems are sophisticated pieces of
equipment. Many families rely on these gas appliances to provide comfort, with a sense of safety
throughout the year.

As a result of the destructive powers of Hurricane Irene, many of these natural gas appliances have
been exposed or submerged for long periods of time in flood waters, causing extensive damage.
These flood waters, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, contain potentially
dangerous materials, such as raw sewage, high levels of bacteria and mold spores, agricultural runoff
and infectious chemicals from industrial areas. “Reusing a hot water heater, boiler, furnace or air
conditioning system after it’s been exposed to contaminated flood waters can create fire, explosion
and carbon monoxide hazards in the home”.

According to the Air-Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI), a national trade
association of manufacturers of residential, commercial and industrial appliances and equipment,
components and related products, recommends that any flood-damaged heating and cooling
equipment be replaced immediately, not repaired.

Hurricane Irene

Being the first hurricane to hit inland NJ since 1903, Hurricane Irene left the streets and flood zones of New Jersey in sub par conditions to say the least.  From the Carolinas to Canada this natural phenomenon has flooded basements, caused residential damage from tree debris and made the populations commute into a bear (NYC's subway system was shut down for the first time in history).  If any flooding has affected your plumbing, heating, air conditioning or lawn sprinkler system we would be glad to help out at 1-800-MR-RUSSO!!

The first week of summer is here!

With the summer season finally upon us we want to remind you of the importance of servicing your air conditioning system.

The least expensive way to maintain your cooling system is to change the air filter. Air pollutants and dirt can clog the filter and can cause damage to your health and the equipment.
  • The filter can be found in a compartment that is covered by a strip of metal that slides in place.
  • The filter's size can be found on the side of the filter.
  • Take these measurements to a local home improvement store to purchase the properly sized filter for your system.
  • To help keep track of when you have changed your filter tape a piece of paper to the side of the equipment and write down the date.

To keep your system running efficiently it is advised to change the filters at least once a year.

Snow Shoveling Tips 2011

  • Do not eat or smoke before shoveling. Caffienated drinks can increase the heart rate and cause blood vessel constriction.
  • Pace yourself and take frequent breaks.
  • Stay hydrated - drink water!
  • Spread sand or salt over the shoveling area to reduce the amount of ice.
  • Wear a hat.
  • Layer your clothing.
  • Wear proper insulated boots.
  • Choose gloves that are water resistant.
  • Use a shovel that has a plastic blade - these are not as heavy as the metal blades.
  • Get a shovel that can push the snow.
  • Stretch your muscles - warmed up muscles work better and do not become sore as easily.
  • Practice proper hand placement - don't hold your hands too close together.
  • Maintain proper posture - do not arch your back.
  • Do not throw snow over your shoulder - throw the snow forward.
  • Clear the snow as soon as it falls - fresh snow is lighter.
If you are feeling faint or any kind of pain, STOP!
