When you crank up the temperature to warm up your house it does not heat up your house faster?

Most furnaces work at the same rate no matter what the temperature is. When you set the temperature higher it makes the furnace cycle on for a longer period to achieve the higher temperature. Setting the temperature higher than normal will overheat the house and waste energy.
